You can find Salla Steel Enterprises over on Pillaiyar Koil Street in Mannurpet. The address is a bit confusing because it used to be Old No. 108, but now it’s New 60. We still have people looking for the old number sometimes, so we have to explain it. Our shop is tucked away on a street that feels quite residential but has a lot of small businesses mixed in. It is a tight space, crammed with steel bars and sheets of all different sizes. We have to be really organized just to move around inside without tripping over something. It’s a humble place, really. We don't have a secretary or a waiting room. Usually, you just walk in and find one of us back in the racks or at the cutting bench. We do a lot of small-scale supply work for people in the neighborhood and local contractors. The noise of the saw is a constant background sound here. We’ve gotten pretty good at talking over it. It’s a lot of lifting and carrying, which keeps us in shape, I guess. We like being in Mannurpet; it’s a place where people still know their neighbors. We just try to do our work without any fuss. It’s a simple business, run by regular people who’ve been doing this for a long time. It can get dusty and loud, but that’s the way it is here every day.
