Saipem India is located at No. 18/5 on North Mada Street in the Kaladipet area of Chennai. If you know Chennai, Mada streets are usually near temples, and ours is no different. There is a lot of local character around here. You can hear the temple bells sometimes and there are always people selling flowers or small goods on the pavement. Our office is right in the middle of all that. It is an old-school kind of building, nothing like those modern glass towers in the IT parks. We have got a small team here working on various engineering and coordination tasks. The rooms are a bit small and the air conditioning struggles during the peak of summer, but we get by. We aren’t big on formal corporate stuff; we just come in, do our jobs, and go home. Parking can be a real headache on North Mada Street, so most of us use scooters or take the bus. It is a very grounded place to work. We see the same neighbors every day and know the local tea stall owner by name. Being in Kaladipet gives the business a very local feel, even though we are part of a larger organization. We do not have flashy brochures or a big reception desk. It is just a place where we sit down at our desks and get things sorted for the projects we handle in Tamil Nadu.
