Ravi Steel Centre

Ravi Steel Centre has a bit of a confusing address because the numbers changed. We used to be Old No. 311, but now it’s New No. 410 on Mint Street. We still have people coming in looking for the old number, and we have to explain the change almost every day. The street is always packed with people, bikes, and handcarts. Our shop is right in the thick of it. We have steel stacked up high, and you have to be careful when you walk through the aisles so you don’t catch your sleeve on something sharp. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks from years of heavy loads. We don’t bother with much cleaning other than a quick sweep in the morning. The focus is on the steel, not the looks of the place. We have a small radio that usually plays the local station in the background, though it’s hard to hear over the street noise. Our customers are mostly regulars who have been coming to us for years. They know the routine and they know we don't have time for small talk that doesn't involve the business at hand. We write out our receipts by hand on those small yellow pads. It’s a simple operation, and we like it that way. No one is wearing a suit here; we just wear clothes that we don't mind getting a bit of grease on.
