R Udayakumar Tarpaulins

Our shop is at No 60 on Sydenhams Road in the Park Town area. We are right in the middle of Nehru Market, very close to the Nehru Indoor Stadium. It’s a very recognizable spot in Periamet. If you come by, you’ll see rolls and rolls of tarpaulins everywhere. We have them stacked up high because we need to keep a lot of variety for the different folks who come in looking for covers. The market is always buzzing with activity, especially in the mornings when the deliveries arrive and the sun is just coming up. R Udayakumar Tarpaulins isn't a fancy name or a fancy place. It’s just a shop where we sell durable sheets and covers. The smell of the heavy material is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We’ve got a small desk near the front where we sit and talk to customers who need something specific. It can get pretty hot in the summer because of the stadium walls blocking the breeze, but we manage with a couple of old fans. Most of our day is spent measuring out lengths of fabric or helping people load heavy rolls into their vehicles. It’s honest work, and we’ve been doing it at this location for a good many years now. The stadium brings a lot of people to the area, so we are never really bored with the view.
