We’ve been here at Tondiarpet on Cross Road for a while now. The 11/F unit is where everything happens for us. Dealing with steel isn’t exactly clean or easy work, but it’s what we’ve always known. Most days it is just about getting the orders sorted and making sure the physical inventory actually matches what we told people over the phone. It gets pretty loud in the yard sometimes with all the clanging. You eventually learn to talk over the noise after a few months of working here. We aren’t a big fancy office with carpets, just a bunch of guys working with heavy metal. The traffic around Cross Road can be a real headache in the evenings, so we always try to get most of our loading done early in the morning before the jams start. Sometimes the paperwork piles up on the old wooden desk, but we eventually get through it. People around the neighborhood know where to find us if they need something. We don’t change much, just keep the machines running and the steel moving out the door. It’s hard work, especially when the weather gets humid and hot, but that’s just how the steel business is. We’ve seen Tondiarpet change quite a bit over the years, but our shop stays pretty much the same. It’s just a regular, practical place where we do what we’re supposed to do. There is nothing more to it than that. We show up, handle the metal, and head home.
