The office is tucked away on 5th Street in Rutland Gate. It is a quiet spot in Nungambakkam but still gets the typical Chennai traffic noise from the main roads nearby. We use the address Suraj Kunj, which is easy to find if you know the old number 8 or the new number 18. Things stay pretty steady here. People come in, sit at their desks, and get to work. There is a lot of paper moving around and the hum of the air conditioner is constant because the sun outside is quite something. It is a plain place. We don’t have fancy wall art or anything, just what is needed to get things done. In the morning, you can hear the birds before the bikes start roaring down the street. Lunch is usually a quick affair at the desks or someone goes out for tea. Being in the 600006 pin code area means things are central, but the street itself feels like its own little world. Most days are about phone calls and staring at screens. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when there are deadlines, but mostly it is just a routine. We have been here for a bit now and the neighbors know us. It is just a regular workplace in a busy part of Tamil Nadu where we try to keep things moving forward day after day without much fuss. The gate is usually open by nine. By evening, we are packing up and heading home through the Nungambakkam traffic. It is what it is.
