Maruthi Steels

If you go to 15/7 in Ramamurthy Nagar, you will find Maruthi Steels. This part of Perambur is where we have set up our yard. It’s a residential and commercial mix around here. We have a lot of steel kept in the open. It’s not the most organized place, but we manage to find what we need eventually. The ground is mostly dirt and gravel, which gets messy when it rains. Perambur can get quite busy, especially near the railway tracks, but our corner in Ramamurthy Nagar is okay. We spend most of our time outdoors. The sun can be quite strong, so we have some basic roofing to provide a bit of shade. We don't have a marketing team or anyone like that. It’s just us and the heavy metal. We talk to the customers who come by and help them load up their trucks. Sometimes the neighbors hear the noise of the steel clanging, but that is the nature of the work. Our office is just a small room with a simple table and some chairs. We keep the ledgers there and try to keep the dust off the books. It’s an old-fashioned way of working, but it suits us. We aren't looking to become a giant company. We just want to keep the local trade going.
