We are located on the first floor of 182 Linghi Street, which used to be number 230 if you’re looking at the old signs. Shipping is a lot of paperwork and waiting for people to call you back. Our office is right in the thick of things near the port area. It’s an old building, so the walls are thick and the ceiling is high. We spend most of our time tracking containers and talking to customs people. It’s not the most exciting job, but someone has to do it. The desks are usually covered in manifests and stamps. Sometimes the internet goes slow and everyone gets frustrated because we can’t update the logs. We’ve got a small kettle in the corner for making tea, which helps during the long afternoons. Dealing with ships means things happen at odd hours, so we’re often here later than we planned. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. It’s just a workspace where we try to keep the cargo moving from one place to another. Linghi Street is always crowded with bikes and delivery vans, so it’s never quiet outside. We’ve been at this for a while and we’ve seen the shipping industry change a lot, but the basic work of moving boxes stays the same. We just keep the records straight and hope the vessels arrive on time.
