Kalaijian Steel Company

Our place is over at 52/9 Murugam Road. It’s a pretty easy spot to find if you know the neighborhood. Kalaijian Steel Company is basically just me and a couple of others trying to keep things organized. Moving steel is heavy and hard, so we spend a lot of time with the crane or just pushing things around manually when we have to. The yard gets a bit messy with all the scraps and offcuts, but we try to keep it somewhat tidy so nobody trips. We don't have a fancy showroom. Most people just walk in, tell us what length they need, and we see what we have in the back. It gets loud here with the metal clanging, especially when the delivery trucks are unloading. Living around here for years means I know most of the people who come in. They aren't looking for a corporate experience; they just want their rebar or sheets for whatever they're building. We drink a lot of coffee to stay awake during the slow hours in the afternoon. Sometimes the rain makes the steel slippery, which is a pain, but we deal with it. It’s a basic operation. We show up, we move some steel, and we go home. That's the way it's been for a while now. There isn't much more to it than that, just regular daily effort in the shop to get things done.
