J Ray Mcdermott Middle East International Inc Ltd has an office on Hussain Mulk Street in Royapettah. Even though the name sounds like a big international thing, this office in Chennai is where the local work happens. We are right in the middle of a very old part of the city. The streets are narrow and always full of people and bikes. We work on engineering and offshore projects, which means a lot of technical drawings and long meetings. Most of our day is spent at our desks, but we are often coordinating with people in different time zones. It can get a bit confusing with the hours, but we manage. The building here is an older one, and we have been in Royapettah for quite some time. We don't have a fancy corporate lobby. It is more about the desks and the computers where the actual engineering happens. We walk out for lunch and get food from the local messes nearby. It is a very normal Chennai life for us. There is always a lot of talk about projects and deadlines in the office. We don't use much marketing speak because we are mostly talking to other engineers and technicians. It is a practical place where people focus on the technical details of the work. We just try to get through the tasks for the day and handle the international coordination as it comes. It is a busy life, but it suits us.
