Hydro-Pneumatic & Spares is down at No.33, Sembudoss Street. If you’ve ever been to this area, you know it’s mostly narrow lanes and a lot of metal shops. Our place is full of pipes, valves, and all sorts of spare parts. It smells like machine oil and old iron most of the time. We don't have much space for people to sit down, as every corner is stacked with boxes. It’s a bit of a maze in here. We spend our days digging through bins to find the right bolt or seal for someone. The street outside is usually blocked by a truck or a cart, so getting deliveries in is always a struggle. We’ve been at this for a long time. We aren’t really interested in being a big corporation. We just want to sell the parts people need to fix their machines. It’s dusty work and your hands are always dirty by lunchtime. There’s a small desk in the back where we keep the ledger and the phone. It rings a lot. Most of the people who come here are mechanics or workers from the nearby factories. We don't have a website that does anything fancy, we just talk to people. Sometimes we have to hunt for hours to find a specific part in the back. It’s just us and the inventory. No big mission, just keeping the shops around here running. That’s about all there is to it, really. Just parts and metal and hard work.
