Florence Shoe Company Ltd.

Florence Centre is where we spend most of our time. It’s located at 69, E. V. K. Sampath Road in Vepery. It’s an old building, but it has plenty of character. You can see the sign from the street, though it has faded a bit over the years. We make shoes. That is the main thing we do here. We have rows of lasts and stacks of rubber soles piled up in the back rooms. It’s definitely not a quiet place. There is always the sound of hammering or the smell of industrial glue hanging in the air. People come in and out of Vepery all day, and the traffic on Sampath Road is usually a mess, but we don't mind it much anymore. Florence Shoe Company Ltd. has been around long enough that the local shopkeepers all know us by name. We don't use fancy words to describe what we do. We just take the materials and turn them into something you can walk in. Sometimes the leather comes in a bit tough and we have to work it more, or the stitching machine acts up and we spend half the morning fixing it with a screwdriver and some oil. It’s just the daily routine. We don't have a big mission statement on the wall. We just have a calendar and a list of what needs to be shipped out to the customers. It’s a steady life and we are used to the grind. We've been here for many years.
