Our store, Tai Boots N Bags, is at No. 137 on Mount Poonamallee Road in Porur. We are very close to the main signal, so it’s a spot where thousands of people pass by every single day. If you are waiting for the light to change, you can see our windows. We sell a variety of boots, shoes, and different kinds of bags. The shop is long and narrow, and we try to use the walls to show as much as possible. It’s a very busy area, and the noise from the traffic is constant, but you get used to it after a while. I’ve been here for several years now. Most of the time I am helping people find the right size or showing them which bag has the most pockets. Porur is a bustling place and being on Mount Poonamallee Road means we get a lot of walk-in customers who are just passing through. The shop can get a bit dusty because of the road, so we are always cleaning the shelves. I don’t have any big corporate backing or fancy marketing. It’s just a local shop where we sell honest goods at a fair price. Sometimes it’s a bit of a struggle when the monsoons come and the road gets flooded, but we keep the shop open. It’s a lot of manual work and long hours, but I enjoy meeting the people who live and work around the Porur area. We just take it day by day and try to have good stock.
