Devaraja Mudali Street is always crowded, and our shop is right in the middle of it at New No. 25. People still get confused with the old number 56, but we’ve been here long enough that most regulars know where to find us. It’s a hardware shop, so expect shelves packed to the ceiling with boxes. We have nails, screws, tools, and all sorts of bits and bobs. It’s not the most organized place, but I usually know where everything is. If I don't, my assistant probably does. It’s a narrow shop, like most on this street. We get all kinds of customers, from plumbers to people just trying to fix a leaky tap at home. We spend a lot of time climbing ladders to reach the high shelves. It’s noisy outside with the carts and the shouting, but that’s just the market life. We open early and close when the street starts to quiet down. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just come in, ask for what they need, and we pull it out from a drawer. Sometimes we have to tell people we're out of something and to come back tomorrow. It’s a bit dusty and cramped, but it’s been our livelihood for a long time. We just keep serving the people who walk through the door. It’s about being useful and knowing your stock. We’ve been doing this for decades now. It's just the way it's always been for us.
