You’ll find us at Number 1 Ragavendra Street in Athipet, which is part of the Selliamman Nagar area near the Ambattur Industrial Estate. Bhagavan Steel & Cement is exactly what the name suggests. We keep stocks of construction materials for the builders and homeowners around here. It’s a heavy business. There’s always dust from the cement bags and the sound of steel clanging when we’re loading the trucks. We don't have a shiny showroom because this kind of stuff doesn't need one. People come here knowing what they need for their site. The industrial estate is always loud and busy, so we fit right in. We deal with various grades of steel and different brands of cement depending on what’s available from the suppliers. Our yard is usually full of stacks that we try to keep neat, though the rain sometimes makes that a challenge. We’ve been in Ambattur for a good while, so we know the local contractors and the guys working on the smaller house plots. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s necessary for all the building work happening around Selliamman Nagar. We open early because that’s when the work starts on the sites. If you need a few bags or a whole truckload, we just get it sorted and sent out. It’s physical work and our clothes usually end up covered in gray dust by noon, but that is how it goes.
