Atlantic Shipping is located at Caithnes Hall on Lingi Chetty Street. The address is a bit funny because it has an old number, 157, and a new number, 323, but it is the same building on the 3rd floor. This area is right in the heart of the old business district near the port in Chennai. You can practically smell the sea air on some days. The building has been around for ages and it has a lot of character. We work on the third floor and it is usually pretty quiet until the phone starts ringing. We handle shipping, which means dealing with the docks and the vessels coming into the harbor. It is a lot of logbooks and coordination. Sometimes we have to go down to the port ourselves to see what is going on, but mostly we are right here at our desks. The hallway outside is narrow and you can hear the other businesses working through the walls. We do not have any fancy posters or a big sign out front, just the name on the door. It is a steady kind of work. We have got a small group of people here who have been working together for years. We just take things as they come, handling the arrivals and departures and making sure the containers are where they are supposed to be. It is what we know how to do and we just try to keep things moving along.
