We are situated at 43/1 Rajaji Salai, which is right in the heart of the action near the harbor. Aspinwall & Company Ltd has a long history, but in this office, it’s just us dealing with the daily realities of trade and logistics. The salty air from the sea is always around us, and you can hear the horns of the ships if the wind is blowing the right way. Our space is pretty functional. We have benches and desks that have been here since before I started. We don't spend money on expensive decorations or designer furniture because that doesn't help us move goods. The day usually starts early with a lot of phone calls to the port and the warehouse. Sometimes the internet goes down or a truck breaks down, and everything gets thrown into a bit of chaos. We just deal with it as it comes. It is a straightforward operation where everyone knows their role. We don't have any big corporate manifestos or long-winded mission statements pinned to the walls. We just have calendars and duty rosters. It’s a bit messy at times, especially when we have big shipments coming through at the same time, but we manage to sort it out. The staff here are locals who have been doing this for a long time, so we don't need much explaining on how things work. It’s just daily life for us at Rajaji Salai.
