Ashok Steel House

Ashok Steel House is right on Mint Street in Park Town, which is probably one of the busiest streets you will ever see in Chennai. We are situated near the Egambeswarar Koil, so the sound of temple bells and the constant honking of scooters is just part of our daily life here. The shop is filled with the clinking sound of stainless steel. We have everything from small spoons and tumblers to those massive cooking pots used for big festivals. It is a narrow shop, like most on Mint Street, and we have utilized every inch of wall space to hang pans and ladles. It can be a bit overwhelming for someone who isn't used to the crowd, but we like the energy of it. I've been working here for years, and I can tell you exactly which shelf has the tiffin carriers and which one has the water jugs without even looking. We get all sorts of customers, from young couples setting up their first kitchen to temple cooks looking for heavy-duty vessels. The air in the shop always smells a bit like metal and incense from the temple nearby. We don't really bother with fancy displays; we just stack the steel high so people can see the variety. It is a bit of a workout moving those heavy boxes around, but it keeps us busy and the day goes by fast.
