If you find yourself near Luz Corner in Mylapore, you’ll probably pass by our shop. We are at No 147 on Royapettah High Road. It’s a very old part of the city and things are always moving fast around here. Our store is filled with all sorts of metal items. We’ve got stainless steel pots, brass lamps, and heavy cooking vessels everywhere. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to keep a lot of variety on the shelves. Most days, the sound of the traffic outside is constant. You can hear the buses and the horns all day long. We have customers who have been coming to us for years, sometimes even their children come now. It’s a small family-run place. We don’t have any big signs or fancy displays. The items are just stacked up where there’s space. Usually, I’m standing behind the counter, and someone is helping fetch things from the higher shelves using a ladder. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, but the stone floors help a little. We spend a lot of time cleaning the metal so it doesn't get dull from the city air. It’s hard work keeping everything shiny. We just open up early, sweep the front, and start the day. It’s a simple way to make a living, and we like being part of the Mylapore community. We just take things as they come and help the people who walk in.
