We are located over at Kences Enclave on Ramakrishna Street. It’s a bit of a tight spot for a granite business, but we’ve managed to stay here for years. Most of our day is spent talking to contractors or homeowners who are looking for something specific for a renovation. We don’t have a massive showroom with bright lights. Instead, we have stacks of granite that we move around so people can see the patterns in the natural light. Sometimes the rain makes everything a bit messy, but the stone looks better when it’s wet anyway. We deal with all sorts of people, from those who know exactly what they want to those who are completely lost. We just walk them through the yard and show them what’s available. It’s not a complicated business. We get the stone in, we store it, and then we get it out to the job sites. Sometimes the trucks have a hard time navigating the street, so we have to coordinate that pretty carefully. There’s about five of us here most days. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the jobs we have lined up. It’s a steady life. We don’t do much advertising; mostly people just find us because they live nearby or heard about us from a neighbor. It’s a plain, honest way to make a living, and we like being part of this neighborhood. We’ve seen a lot of businesses come and go on this street, but we’ve managed to stick around just by doing the work every day.
