S K Patel Engineering Works

We run a small engineering workshop at number 90 in Gali Number 8, over in Anand Parbat. It is a place where we do a lot of lathe work and metal shaping for local clients. The sound of cutting metal is pretty much constant from morning till the evening. We have got a few old machines that still work better than most of the new ones you see today. My father started this workshop many years ago, and I basically grew up around these machines and tools. It is not the cleanest place in the world, as there are metal shavings and oil spots everywhere, but it is where the real work gets done. We take on small jobs mostly, things that people bring in needing a quick repair or a custom metal fit. There is a small wooden bench out front where we sit and drink some tea when the power goes out. Gali 8 is quite narrow, so you cannot really bring any big vehicles inside the lane. We have to carry most of the heavy metal pieces by hand or use a small trolley. It is a tough life but it is the work we know how to do. We do not have a website or any of that modern stuff. People just know the S K Patel name in this neighborhood through years of trust. We try to be honest about how long a job will actually take. If a machine breaks down, we spend the night fixing it ourselves.
