Rapid Flour Mills (Regd.)

Rapid Flour Mills (Regd.) has been operating out of Shop No. 37 in the Old Rajinder Nagar Market for quite some time now. If you walk through the market, you can usually hear the sound of the mills before you actually see the shop. It is a constant low rumble that vibrates through the floor. The whole place is usually covered in a very fine layer of white flour dust, no matter how much we try to sweep it up. It gets on our hair, our clothes, and even the eyebrows of the guys working the machines. The shop isn't very big, so we have to be careful about how we stack the bags of wheat and finished flour. People from the neighborhood bring their grain in, and we get to work. There is a specific smell to the place—that dry, earthy scent of crushed wheat—that you never really lose. The market outside is always busy with people buying groceries and shouting to each other, but inside, it’s mostly just the noise of the machinery. We have a small wooden counter where we take the money and write out the receipts by hand. It’s a very simple operation. We don’t have any fancy computers or cooling systems, just the old fans and the grinders doing their job. It’s a bit cramped and messy, but it’s a real working mill in the heart of the city.
