Baluja House isn’t much to look at from the outside, but it’s been our home for a long time now. We are tucked away in Jhandewalan Extn, right near the Videocon Tower, and the traffic on Rani Jhansi Road is something you just have to live with every day. Most of our mornings are spent dealing with bulk food orders and making sure the paperwork for the international side of things is actually correct. The office itself is usually a bit of a mess with files stacked on every available surface, and the tea lady knows exactly how much sugar everyone takes. We don’t have any fancy meeting rooms or high-end coffee machines; we just use the old desks that have been here since we started. It’s a busy environment where the phone never seems to stop ringing, but we’ve got a good rhythm going. Someone is always complaining about the lift being slow, so a lot of us just use the stairs to get our exercise. We aren’t trying to be the biggest company out there; we just want to get the food where it needs to go without any major hiccups. It’s a lot of practical work, checking grains and pulses and talking to suppliers. Sometimes the air conditioning makes a weird rattling noise, but we just ignore it and get on with the day’s tasks. It’s just a regular workplace where real people are doing a real job.
