Our office is at number 41 in the DSIDC Complex on Mata Sundari Marg. It’s a sturdy old building that has seen a lot of history. Being a publication house, we are surrounded by stacks of paper and the smell of ink almost every day. It’s not the quietest place because of the printers and the general bustle of the complex. We’ve been here for years, and the shelves are overflowing with books we’ve worked on. There’s no fancy furniture; we use old wooden desks that have been around since the beginning. We spend most of our time reading through manuscripts or checking proofs. It’s a lot of sitting and focusing, even when there’s noise in the hallway. Sometimes the lift in the complex doesn’t work, so we have to carry boxes of books up the stairs, which is quite a workout. We aren't trying to be the biggest publisher out there. We just want to get the work done right. The staff usually brings lunch from home, and we all eat together in the back room. It’s a very grounded atmosphere. Mata Sundari Marg is a busy stretch, but once you’re inside the complex, it feels like its own little world of paper and words. We keep a few spare chairs for visitors, though they usually end up covered in manuscripts. It’s a bit messy, but it is how we like to work.
