Darvish Architects

Darvish Architects is based in Room A20 of the Spike Building, which is right by the Calicut Medical College in Kozhikode. We are also quite near the Markaz Juma Masjid, so it’s a fairly easy spot for anyone in the area to find. The office is a busy little place. We have desks covered in papers and computers that stay on late most nights. We aren't a big, cold corporation. It’s just a group of us who enjoy the process of designing buildings and seeing them actually go up. We spend a lot of time talking to local contractors and making sure they understand the drawings we provide. Kozhikode has its own way of doing things, and we’ve learned how to work within those local rhythms. We don't use a lot of fancy jargon when we talk to clients. We just explain what’s possible and what might be a problem later on. It’s a lot of practical thinking and problem-solving. Some days are spent entirely on the road, visiting sites and checking on progress, while other days we are stuck inside doing the technical work. We don't have a polished mission statement or anything like that. We just show up, do the drawings, and try to make sure every project we take on is handled with some common sense and attention to the actual site conditions.
