Borjalenga Integrated Aquaculturefarmers Producer Company Limited is situated at House Number 68 in Shilkuri Grant Part-Viii. This is in the Harintilla area of Silchar, down in Cachar district. Our main focus is on aquaculture, which means we spend a lot of our time around the water and the fish ponds. The weather in Cachar is often very humid and hot, which is good for the fish but hard on the people working. We have a lot of local farmers who have ponds on their land and we all decided to work together under this company name. Using house 68 as our base helps us stay organized with the paperwork that the fishery department requires. It is a practical setup. We don't have any marketing experts or anything fancy like that. We are just people who know how to raise fish and manage the water levels. Sometimes the rain is too much and we have to worry about the ponds overflowing, and other times it’s too dry. We share our knowledge about what feed works best and how to keep the fish healthy until they are ready for the market. It is a lot of physical work, dragging nets and carrying heavy crates. We just want to make sure that the aquaculture in our village stays profitable for the families living here in the Shilkuri Grant area.
