We’re up here at the Gagal Cement Works in Barmana, Bilaspur. It’s a different kind of life in this part of Himachal. The hills are all around us, and the roads can be a bit tricky when the weather turns. Our office is right where the action is. We handle the day-to-day operations for the site. It gets pretty loud and dusty sometimes, but that’s expected in our line of work. We’ve been part of the Barmana landscape for quite some time now. Most of the people working here are locals from the surrounding villages. We don’t have a lot of corporate polish. The desks are a bit old, and there’s always paperwork piled up. We just try to stay organized and get the shipments out when they’re supposed to go. You can see the factory chimneys from the highway. We spend our mornings drinking tea and going over the schedule. It’s a lot of coordination between the different departments. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan, like when a truck breaks down on the winding roads, but we just deal with it. It’s honest work. We aren't trying to impress anyone with fancy talk. We just focus on the task at hand and try to keep things running smoothly. The air is a bit cooler here than in the plains, which is nice, but the work is still hard. We’re just a bunch of folks keeping the gears turning in Bilaspur.
