Up here in the hills of Himachal Pradesh, things feel a bit different. We are based at the Gagal Cement Works in Barmana, which is part of the Bilaspur district. The air is crisper here, although the plant itself is always humming with activity. Sumanta and the rest of us work out of this office near the post office. It’s a scenic area if you look past the industrial buildings, with the mountains framing everything we do. Our office isn't anything fancy; it’s just a place to coordinate the logistics and keep the paperwork moving. We deal with a lot of truck traffic because of the location. Sometimes the mountain roads get tricky when it rains, so we spend a lot of time checking on arrivals. We don't have a big corporate team here. It’s just us, local folks mostly, trying to keep things running smoothly. We drink a lot of chai to stay warm in the winter months. There isn’t a lot of fluff in how we talk or work. If something needs fixing, we fix it. We know the people in Barmana well, and the community here is quite supportive. It’s a rugged kind of work environment, but it has its own rhythm that we’ve all grown to like. We just focus on the daily tally and making sure everyone stays on schedule. It’s hard work sometimes, but it’s what we do here in Bilaspur. We just take things as they come and try to keep it simple.
