Nagpur Steel

Our shop, Nagpur Steel, is at 68/2 right near the church in Barkheri. It is a noisy place to work because we are always moving heavy metal beams and steel sheets around the yard. You can usually hear the sound of the saws or the clanging of metal from down the street. It is definitely not a clean job, and we all end up with grease and metal dust on our clothes by the end of the shift. The church nearby is a landmark we always tell people to look for if they are lost. We have a large open space for the heavy stock, and the sun really beats down on us in the afternoons. We use a small crane for the biggest pieces, but a lot of the work is still done by hand. Most of our customers are local contractors who come by in their own trucks to pick up what they need for a building project. The office is just a tiny cabin in the corner where we keep the books and the scales for weighing the steel. We have had the same group of guys working here for years, so we have a good rhythm going. We have to be quick to cover everything up when it starts to rain so the stock doesn't get rusty. It’s just basic, physical work that helps get things built around here.
