Bordia Printers

Our shop is right in the Bhilwara Textile Market, not far from the Mahila Ashram. It’s a loud place with all the machines running but we've gotten used to the noise over the years. We handle all sorts of printing jobs that come our way from the local businesses. Being in the textile market means we see a lot of fabric labels and paper tags. The ink smell is always there in the air. Sometimes the rollers get jammed and we have to spend an hour fixing them with greasy hands. It’s just how it goes with old equipment. We started out with one small press and slowly added a few more as things got busier. My brother and I usually handle the orders ourselves while a couple of helpers do the heavy lifting. The floor is often covered in paper scraps by the end of the shift. We don't have a big office, just a desk tucked in the corner near the window where we keep the bills. Customers come in with their designs and we see what we can do for them. Some days are really frantic when everyone wants their stuff at once. Other days it's just us cleaning the plates and keeping things tidy. It feels good to see the finished stacks ready to go out. It's a living and it keeps us busy in the market. We take each job as it comes and try to get it done for our neighbors.
