Trusted Spares

Working out here at the Alang Ship Recycling Yard is really unlike working anywhere else in the world. It is a massive, sprawling place full of old ships being taken apart piece by piece. We focus our time on the spares, which are the parts that are still in good shape even when the rest of a ship is ready for the scrap heap. It is a dirty and loud job, to be honest. There is sand everywhere and the sound of torches cutting through thick steel plates never seems to stop. We spend our mornings walking through the different sections of the yard looking for specific valves, motors, or whatever else someone might need for their own vessel. It is definitely not a clean office job. Most of the time we are wearing old boots and heavy gloves to stay safe. People come from all over the country to find parts here because you can often find things that aren't even manufactured anymore. We have been part of this yard for quite some time now. You eventually learn how to tell what is worth keeping and what is just plain scrap metal. The heat can be pretty brutal in the middle of the day, so we usually take a long break when the sun is at its highest point. There isn't much else around here except the ships and the sea. We don't have a fancy sign or a big office. Most people just know our name.
