Our group, Agroarya Farmer Producer Company Limited, is located at 132 Umari in Bhadohi. It’s not a big fancy office, just a place where we can get together and sort out the farming business. We started this because we were tired of being at the mercy of middle-men who didn't understand how much work goes into a single acre of land. Most of the people involved here have been farming their whole lives. We know the soil in Umari like the back of our hands. We aren't professional businessmen with shiny shoes; we’re the guys you see out in the fields when the sun is just coming up. Our day-to-day involves checking the crops, making sure the irrigation is working, and figuring out who needs help with their planting. We keep things simple and honest. If a crop fails, we talk about why and try to do better next time. When the harvest is good, we all share in that success. We don't have a long history of corporate success, just a long history of hard work and staying close to the land. It’s a quiet life for the most part, punctuated by the busy times of sowing and reaping. We handle our own affairs and try to keep our costs low so there’s more left over for our families. That’s really all there is to it. We just take it as it comes.
