We are right on the National Highway 8 in Whitefield. It is a loud place because of all the trucks and cars zooming by all day. Inside the shop, it’s a different kind of busy. We have glass counters filled with all sorts of mobile phones, some new and some that have seen better days. A lot of our time is spent looking through magnifying glasses at tiny circuit boards or trying to peel off broken screen protectors without cutting our fingers. People drop their phones in all sorts of places, and they bring them here hoping we can make them turn on again. It is a lot of finicky work with very small screws that have a habit of bouncing off the table and disappearing onto the floor. We also sell a lot of charging cables and cheap earphones because people always seem to be losing those. The shop isn't very big, so it gets warm when the sun hits the front window in the afternoon. We have a small stool behind the counter where someone is usually sitting and trying to fix a charging port or a speaker that stopped working. It isn't a glamorous job, and my eyes feel a bit tired by the end of the shift, but there is always something to do. We just keep the lights on and the tools ready for whoever walks in with a broken screen or a battery that won't hold its charge.
