Woodlife Handicrafts

If you find yourself on Commercial Street, you might miss Woodlife Handicrafts at B271 because it's tucked away a bit. The shop is filled with the smell of cut wood and some heavy oil we use for polishing. We have stuff piled up on the floor and stacked on old wooden shelves. It’s not one of those shiny stores where everything is perfectly spaced out. Most of the items here are made by hand, so you’ll see little marks or different grains in every piece. We get a lot of dust from the sanding, so I'm usually wiping things down with a yellow rag. People come in from the busy street just to get away from the noise for a minute. We have small carvings, bowls, and some furniture that takes up too much room. We don't really do big advertisements. Most people just wander in while they are shopping for clothes nearby. B271 has been our spot for a long time now. The ceiling is a bit low and the lighting isn't great, but it feels right for a wood shop. Sometimes we are working on a piece right at the front and you can see the shavings falling. We aren't trying to be a big chain or anything. It’s just about working with our hands and selling things that actually feel solid. We enjoy the quiet moments when the shop is empty and we can just polish the stock.
