Designer

Our small workspace is located over in Gupta Layout, which is part of the Wilson Garden neighborhood. It is a place where we spend almost all of our time surrounded by rolls of fabric, spools of thread, and the hum of sewing machines. We just call the business Designer. The floor is nearly always covered in little snips of colorful cloth and loose threads that we have to sweep up with a broom at the end of every day. People come to visit us when they have a specific idea for a new outfit or if they just need something adjusted so it fits them a bit better. I am usually the one found with a yellow measuring tape draped around my neck and a pencil tucked behind my ear. We have a few old wooden cupboards where we store all the different materials we have collected over the years. Sometimes it takes us a while to find the exact shade of blue or green that a customer is looking for. It is a lot of work that involves squinting at small details and making sure the seams are as straight as possible. Wilson Garden is a busy spot, so there are always people and cars moving around outside our door. We have one small window that lets in some natural light, which really helps when we are doing the fine hand-stitching. It is a quiet life, mostly just the sound of the machines and the sharp snip of scissors.
