White House Furnitures is over at No.44 Sultan G Guntha Road. We’re near the Cantonment Bamboo Bazar, right on Vasanth Nagar 9th B Pipeline Road. It’s a bit of a maze getting here if you don’t know the little turns and side streets. The shop is filled with all sorts of furniture pieces, some finished and some just waiting for us to get to them. You can usually smell the wood shavings and the polish as soon as you walk in the door. It’s a bit crowded with sofas, chairs, and tables, so you have to be careful where you step. We spend a lot of time moving things around just to make enough space to work. It’s not a polished showroom with bright lights and mirrors. It’s more of a working space where things actually get made and fixed by hand. The street outside is always lively with the bamboo market and people moving about. We’ve got a few guys who handle all the heavy lifting and the local deliveries. Sometimes the noise from the road is a bit much, but we don't really mind it anymore. People come in looking for something very specific and we usually have to dig through the back storage to find it. It’s a very hands-on business for all of us. We’ve been here in Vasanth Nagar for quite a while now and have seen the neighborhood change, but we just keep doing what we do.
