Mathikere is where we are. It's number 273/A. You'll see the steel stacks before you see the sign. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. We sell rods, channels, and other bits for construction. The yard gets dusty when the wind picks up. I’ve worked here a long time. My hands are usually stained with rust by the end of the day. We get all sorts of people coming in. Some are contractors who know exactly what they want, and others are just homeowners trying to fix a gate. We don't have a big showroom. It’s just the warehouse and a small space for the accounts. The lorries come in early to drop off the stock, and that makes a lot of noise. Neighbors don't always love it, but that's life in a commercial area. We try to keep things organized, but when a big shipment arrives, everything gets a bit messy for a while. We don't do much advertising. People usually find us because they saw the trucks or someone told them we have what they need. Steel is steel, you know? It’s heavy and hard to move, so we stay busy just managing the inventory. We have a small crane for the big stuff, but a lot of it is still done by hand. It keeps us moving. The tea stall around the corner is where we spend our breaks. It is a noisy job, but we are used to it.
