Vijaya Lakshmi Food System

Our location at Kasturiba Nagar is tucked away near Zakariya Pole. It’s a bit of a squeeze getting down Iliff Road sometimes, especially when the delivery vans are parked on the side. We are at number 5, and if you walk past, you can usually smell whatever is being tested or processed that day. We work with food systems, which mostly means a lot of stainless steel machines and parts lying around. The kitchen area is where the real work happens. It’s not a restaurant, so don’t expect a menu, but there’s always something bubbling or grinding. We spend a lot of time making sure the gears are turning right and nothing is leaking. It’s a bit of a messy job, and we all wear aprons that have seen better days. The walls are white but have a few splashes here and there from some accidental spills. We have a small table in the corner where we sit for lunch, usually sharing whatever everyone brought from home. The neighborhood is quite old, and the buildings are close together, so we know all our neighbors' business and they know ours. It’s a noisy, busy place but we’ve grown to like the chaos of it. Most days we are just trying to keep up with the repairs and the new setups people want.
