Veerabhadreshwara Coconut & Banana Shop

If you walk down Subhash Road in Chamrajpet, you’ll see our shop at number 246. We deal in coconuts and bananas, mostly. Every morning, the trucks come in early with fresh loads from the farms. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, moving the heavy bags of coconuts and hanging the big bunches of bananas out front. The shop, Veerabhadreshwara Coconut & Banana Shop, has been part of this street for years. People come here for their daily needs, especially before festivals when everyone needs coconuts for prayers. The floor is usually covered in bits of coconut husk and there’s that sweet smell of ripe bananas in the air all day. We don’t have a computer or anything like that; we just use a simple notebook to keep track of what we buy and sell. It’s loud on Subhash Road with all the horns and people shouting, but we’re used to it. Sometimes the neighbors stop by just to chat for a minute while they pick up a few things for breakfast. We try to keep the fruit fresh, but that’s just part of the job. It’s hard work, especially when it rains and we have to move everything inside quickly. Number 246 is just a basic shop, nothing more. We wake up early, do the work, and go home when the sun goes down. It’s a steady life that keeps us busy every single day without fail.
