Veena Stores

Veena Stores is located at Malleswaram West 183. If you’ve ever been to Malleswaram, you know it’s a place that sticks to its traditions. We are part of that. The shop is quite small, really just a counter and some shelf space behind it. There isn't any room for tables, so everyone just stands outside on the pavement to eat. It can get pretty crowded, especially on Sunday mornings when everyone is out for their walks. We have to work fast because the line usually goes down the street. It’s a lot of hand-to-hand stuff, passing out packets and taking cash. We don't use any fancy computerized billing systems. Most of us have been working here so long we can do the math in our heads. The bags of flour and sugar are stacked high in the back, and there’s always a fine dust of it on the floor. It smells like roasted grains and coffee most of the time. We get people who have been coming here since they were kids, and now they bring their own children. We don't have a website or any social media pages to speak of. We just open the doors early and stay until the stock is gone. It’s just a small shop in an old neighborhood, trying to keep up with the daily rush. The address has stayed the same for years and so have we.
