V T Kalyana Mantapa

V T Kalyana Mantapa is located right on Lalbagh Main Road, which is a very busy part of Bangalore. If you know where the Urvashi Theatre is, we are basically right across the street from there. The Passport Office is also a major landmark nearby, so there are always people walking past our gates. Running a wedding hall means our schedule is never really the same from week to week. Some days the place is completely empty and quiet, and other days it is filled with hundreds of people and loud music. We spend a lot of our time moving heavy wooden chairs around or sweeping the floors after a big function is over. The building has been here for many years and has that older architectural style that you don't see as much in the newer parts of the city. Traffic on Lalbagh Road can be quite difficult, especially when a big event is finishing and everyone is trying to leave at once. We don't do any flashy advertising or anything like that. Most of our work comes from families who live in the area or people who saw the hall while stuck in traffic. In the mornings before the decorators arrive, it is actually quite peaceful. We sit out front and watch the BMTC buses go by. It is a lot of hard work keeping a large space like this running, but it is what we do every day.
