Universal Book Store

Universal Book Store is right on Avenue Road, but you have to look for Sanjeeva Naik Lane to find us. We are at number 1, which is basically right opposite the Ganesh Parkash Hotel. If you know this part of town, you know it is always packed with people and traffic. Our shop is filled with stacks of books that seem to grow every week. It’s a bit cramped inside because there are so many titles squeezed onto the shelves. Sometimes we have to move a pile just to reach another one behind it. The smell of paper is everywhere. Being near the hotel helps people find us, as it is a big landmark on the road. We spend our days answering questions about where certain books are or helping people find something specific they heard about. It gets pretty dusty with all the books and the open door, but that’s just how it is in a place like this. Avenue Road is never quiet, so there is a constant background noise of horns and people talking outside the lane. We’ve been at this spot for quite some time now, and we know most of the other shopkeepers around here. It’s a busy life, keeping track of all the different books coming in and going out. We don’t have much room for fancy displays, so we just use every bit of wall space we have for more books.
