Being over here in Seshadripuram on Sg Barve Road is a lot different than other parts of the city. The traffic moves at its own pace and the sidewalk is always a bit crowded with people headed toward the station or the market. I’ve been working at this Univercell for a bit now, and I’ve gotten to know the way the light hits the street in the morning. It’s a busy road, so there’s always a bit of dust coming in, and I’m constantly wiping off the glass counters. The shop isn't fancy, it’s just a place with shelves and a counter where we stand most of the day. Sometimes the power goes out for a few minutes and we just sit there in the dark talking until it comes back on. Sg Barve Road has a lot of old trees that drop leaves everywhere, so the entrance always needs a quick sweep. My chair has a squeak that I can't seem to fix no matter how much I oil it. It’s a practical kind of job, nothing too complicated. Most people who come in are just looking for something quick before they catch their bus. I like the routine of it, honestly. It’s nice to be in a part of town that feels lived-in and real. People around here don't have much patience for nonsense, so we just keep things straight and simple for whoever walks through the door.
