Udaya Stores

Udaya Stores has been sitting here at number 13 on Kempa Gowda Road for a long time. It’s one of those old-fashioned stores where things are stacked up to the ceiling. We sell a bit of everything, mostly stuff people need for their homes. Finding things in here can be a bit of a challenge if you don't know the layout, but we know where every single item is hidden. The shelves are made of old wood and they groan a bit under the weight of the jars and boxes. Kempa Gowda Road is always packed with people and vehicles, so there’s a constant hum of horns and shouting outside our door. We’ve seen the city change so much from this storefront. Many of the old shops are gone now, but we’re still here at 13. We don't have a computer system to track everything; we mostly just remember or write it down in a ledger. It’s a bit slow sometimes, especially when there’s a line of people wanting different things, but we get through it. The light inside is a bit dim and the fan wobbles, but it’s home to us. We aren't trying to compete with the big supermarkets. We just provide what the neighborhood needs and we’ve been doing it that way for years. It’s a dusty, busy, honest place to work. It’s just how things are done at Udaya Stores on Kempa Gowda Road.
