Titanic Carpets

We’ve been here in Maryad Patti for quite a while now. It’s a busy area, and the shop is usually full of rolls of different carpets and rugs. If you walk in, you’ll see heaps of wool and some of the looms where things get put together. It isn’t a fancy place with bright lights or anything like that. We just focus on getting the knots right and making sure the patterns look like they are supposed to. Sometimes the dust from the threads gets everywhere, and we have to spend half the morning just sweeping up. My father started this, and now we just keep it going day by day. We have guys who have been sitting at these looms for twenty years, and they know the rhythm better than anyone. People come in looking for something for their living rooms, and we just show them what we have piled up in the back. It’s simple work, really. We spend a lot of time checking the edges to make sure they won't fray after a month. There’s always the sound of tea being poured and the heavy thud of carpets being flipped over so customers can see the underside. We don't have a big fancy sign outside, just the one everyone knows. It gets hot in the afternoons, but we keep the fans going and just get on with the orders we have on the books right now.
