Thirumala Metal Engineering

Our workshop is at 45 Ramachandrapuram. If you come by you will probably hear the grinding machines before you see the sign. We have been working with metal in this spot for a long time. It is a dusty place and there is always grease on someone’s hands. We don't have a reception desk or a waiting room with magazines. Most people just walk right into the shop floor to talk about what they need. We do a lot of welding and cutting for local projects. Some days we are making small parts for machines and other days we are fixing a gate or a frame. It is loud and hot especially in the afternoons when the sun hits the metal roof. My workers have been here since they were young men. We know each other’s families and we eat lunch together on the back bench. We don’t do much advertising because people in the area already know where we are. We just focus on the drawings and getting the dimensions right. Sometimes we stay late to finish a job if a customer is in a hurry. The equipment is old but it works fine as long as you maintain it well. We spend our weekends cleaning the machines and tidying up the scrap piles. It is not a fancy job but it is what we know how to do and it keeps us going.
