The Sweet Chocolate Factory

Our place, The Sweet Chocolate Factory, is tucked away at Nagappa Street 41/1. It’s not some massive industrial plant with conveyor belts and thousands of workers. It’s actually quite small. When you walk in, the smell of cocoa is everywhere, which is something we’ve just gotten used to over the years. We spend most of our time in the back room. There’s a lot of melting and stirring involved, and it can get pretty messy. We often have chocolate stains on our aprons by noon. The counters are a bit old, and the shelves are usually crowded with jars and boxes we haven't found a better place for. We aren't trying to be a fancy boutique. We just make things that taste good. Sometimes a batch doesn't come out looking exactly right, but we still put it out if it’s fine to eat. It’s a lot of manual work, and our hands are usually tired by the end of the day. The shop at 41/1 isn't very big, so if more than three people come in at once, it feels full. We don't have a marketing department or anyone to handle social media. We just wait for neighbors to stop by and pick something up for their kids or a birthday. It’s a quiet life on Nagappa Street, and we like it that way. We just keep our heads down and focus on getting the temperature of the sugar just right.
