The India Metal Works

The workshop is at 257, (South) Mint Street, Park Town, and we’ve been here for quite some time. If you know this part of the city, you know how crowded it gets. Mint Street is always full of people and vendors, and we are right there in the middle of it. The building is old, like most of them in this area, and the walls have seen a lot of history. We work with metal, so there’s a constant sound of hammering or cutting going on. It’s not a quiet place to work. That much is for sure. The space is narrow and goes back quite a bit. We have our heavy machinery lined up, and there’s barely enough room for two people to pass each other in the aisle. It’s usually covered in a fine layer of metal dust. The air always feels a bit heavy. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to see what we do, they just walk right into the middle of the work area. It’s practical and a bit messy, but it’s how we’ve always done it. We get our supplies delivered early in the morning before the street gets too clogged with traffic. Usually, we are busy until the evening when the shops around us start pulling down their shutters. It’s a long day. It's just what we know. We stay focused and keep the machines running.
