Our small office is tucked away in Gandhi Nagar. Most of the time, the overhead fan is spinning fast to keep the humidity away while we work. We sit here surrounded by old brochures and wall maps that have seen better days. People walk in off the street wanting to know which bus goes where or how long it takes to get down to the coast. We aren't a big travel agency with glossy posters or expensive tours. It’s more about giving people directions and telling them where the decent hotels are located. The desk is usually covered in notebooks where we keep track of the latest train timings and bus schedules. Gandhi Nagar is a quiet enough area compared to the main city center, but we still get a fair share of visitors every day. Sometimes we just talk to people about the weather or the local food while they wait for their papers. It’s a bit old-fashioned here. We don’t use many fancy computers for our daily tasks. Most of the information is just things we know because we’ve lived here forever. If someone wants to see the temples or just find a place to eat, we point them the right way. It’s steady work that keeps us on our feet. We open up early and stay until the evening sun starts to go down and the street lights come on.
