Working out at the Bangalore International Airport in Devanahalli is a different kind of experience. Tajsats Air Catering is located right on the airport grounds. You have to pass through security gates just to get to work. It’s a huge building designed for one thing: getting food onto airplanes. We don't have a storefront where people can just walk in. It’s all about the flight schedules. We work in a world of clocks and timers. If a plane is departing at ten, the carts have to be loaded and ready long before that. The interior of our facility is very industrial. There’s a lot of stainless steel and bright lights. It stays very clean because it has to. We don't spend time on promotional talk or fancy mission statements. We are just a big team of people in hairnets and aprons making sure the trays are filled. The wind blows hard out here in Devanahalli since there aren't many tall buildings around the runways. You can hear the roar of the engines all day and night. We work in shifts that cover all twenty-four hours. It’s a massive operation, but at the end of the day, it’s just about getting the meals right for the passengers. We’ve been part of the airport since the beginning. It’s a lot of pressure, but we just keep our focus on the work.
